Why LokManthan?
  • Historical Context
    • Over the past few centuries, Bharat has witnessed a barrage of invasions and attacks on its land, people and culture. While medieval invaders targeted our people and sacred spaces through militant means, the colonialist laid greater emphasis on destabilising and distorting our diverse knowledge systems, traditions and institutions.
  • Impact of Colonisation
    • The effects of colonization, by deliberate design, advanced rapidly beyond geographical territory, into the the mental framework and cultural fabric of Bharatiyas. Colonizers tampered with our ways of living within our localized settings, and created artificial barriers among the tribal Vanavasis, rural Gramvasis and urban Nagarvasis.
  • Fractured Folk Identities
    • Divisive dichotomies such as civilized and uncivilized, tribal and non-tribal, criminal and non-criminal, were manufactured to suit colonial interests in admistering control over this expansive and prosperous nation. The essential one-ness of this ancient civilization was systematically distorted and people were conditioned to equate its all-inclusive ‘Lok’ traditions with numerous disconnected and fractured ‘Folk’ traditions.
  • One-ness of Bharatiyata
    • It is thus imperative to undo these false fragmentations and set right the narratives, by decolonizing Bharatiya minds and restoring Lok Parampara. LokManthan showcases the essential oneness among Bharatiyas and inspires us to contemplate on the richness and vibrancy of Bharat’s Lok cuture.
