Om Vayam Rashtre Jagriya Purohita Mata Bhumi Putro Aham Prithivyah Om
This invocation signifies peace and unity in India. Today, we gather for a debate program focused on India, where we will discuss critical issues in public life. I am honored to have been specially invited to speak about natural farming. Joining us are esteemed guests Dr. Anirban Bandyopadhyay and Dr. Neerja Gupta, along with the event coordinator, Shri Prashant Paul, a distinguished thinker, philosopher, scholar, and social researcher.
Honouring Ancient Indian Wisdom: The Legacy of Rishis and Scholars
Honorable guests, ladies and gentlemen! In India, the term “rishi” (sage) is deeply intertwined with science and research. The word “research scholar” derives from “rishi,” reflecting the wisdom of ancient scholars who meditated in caves and forests, contemplating and researching. Our ancestors imparted their knowledge even in challenging times and we are the inheritors of this profound legacy. We should take immense pride in our ancestors, culture, language, heritage, traditions, food, attire, and literature—everything that defines us as Indians.
India’s Intellectual Legacy and Global Progress
Great Indian thinkers like Aryabhata laid the foundations of modern science and mathematics. Even the term “scientist” traces its origins to the work of our ancient sages. Today, India’s progress is evident globally, driven by a strong economic and intellectual base. While challenges persist, we must remember that India has always been a land of wisdom, prosperity, and sustainability. Moving forward, we must continue to advance in education, economy, and development, drawing inspiration from our glorious past.
Leadership and Vision: Steering India towards Greater Heights
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India’s global stature has risen significantly. Our achievements in science, technology, and innovation are recognized worldwide. However, this journey has not been without challenges. It is imperative that we work together, share knowledge, and uphold the vision of our great leaders. By remembering our roots and traditions, we can ensure the growth and dignity of future generations. Our collective efforts will shape India’s future, and this fills me with hope.
The Transition to Natural Farming: A Growing Movement across States
I am particularly excited to discuss the mission of natural farming. In Gujarat, post-pandemic, 10 lakh farmers transitioned from chemical to natural farming. Similarly, in Himachal Pradesh, two lakh farmers have adopted this practice over the past four years. This transformation is a result of the Prime Minister’s vision and the cooperation of state governments, scholars, scientists, and policymakers. It is essential to protect our soil, environment, and future generations from the harmful effects of chemical farming.
Natural Farming for Environmental Healing and Agricultural Revival
India stands on the brink of an agricultural revolution. Natural farming is the key to reversing the environmental damage caused by chemical practices. I have witnessed its positive impact on both land and farmers’ lives. Natural farming is not merely about crop cultivation; it is about restoring harmony with nature. Our ancestors practised such sustainable methods and it is now our duty to carry forward this legacy. The health of our land, air and water is intrinsically linked to the well-being of our people.
The Dangers of Chemical Farming
The environment is being polluted at an alarming rate due to harmful chemicals like pesticides and fertilisers. These toxins have infiltrated our food and water, leading to a rise in diseases such as cancer, heart disease and diabetes. Our ancestors lived longer, healthier lives because they lived in harmony with nature. We must return to these practices and reject short-term, harmful solutions that exacerbate environmental and health crises.
Restoring Soil Health and Protecting Resources
Modern farming practices, including the excessive use of urea and fertilizers, have depleted essential soil nutrients. It is crucial to adopt sustainable, natural farming methods to restore soil health. The future of our planet depends on how we treat our environment today. As responsible citizens, we must make informed choices for our health, food systems, and environment. Natural farming embodies this vision, and I urge everyone to embrace its potential to transform agriculture.
Securing the Land for Future Generations
This shift in farming practices is not just about agriculture; it is about securing a better future for our children and grandchildren. The environmental impact of current practices is profound, and natural farming offers a sustainable alternative. By adopting these methods, we can ensure the longevity of our land and resources for future generations. Together, we can ensure India’s growth while safeguarding its natural wealth.
Collective Responsibility
This is a collective effort, and we must continue to advocate for reforms in farming, health, and education. With your support and commitment, I am confident that India will lead the way in creating a sustainable and prosperous future. Let us join hands to advance the mission of natural farming and position India as a global leader in environmental conservation.
Thank you!
